When the MKT closed down it's massive depot at Sedalia in the early 1980's, it moved all remaining administrative operations into this converted boxcar, which was located just south of and across the tracks from the original depot. This view looks northeast and shows what the "new" depot looked in the summer of 1987, just months before the Union Pacific merger. UP removed this boxcar office after its 1988 takeover of the Katy, but the original depot still stands and was recently reopened to the public as part of the Katy Trail State Park. The tracks past this point remained in place until 1996.
