MKT Depot At Sedalia, MO, 1995

The old MKT depot in Sedalia as seen on April 23, 1995. The track in the immediate foreground was the spur to Sutherland's lumber (now closed), while the track closest to the depot was the mainline. Up until 1988, MKT stationed a GP unit on the Sutherlands spur for switching local industries. These tracks were originally left in place by Union Pacific after the merger to serve Sutherlands and the MFA grain elevator on the south side of town, however, they have since been removed. Just a couple hundred yards to the right and back of the photographer is the junction with highly active Union Pacific mainline that Katy used to reach St. Louis after 1986. While the old MKT tracks were finally removed by UP in 1997, the depot is undergoing a massive restoration, and will be reopened soon as an interpretive center for the Katy Trail.
