At Sedalia Depot, 1987

Seen here are at Sedalia are GP40 #246, still in Conrail colors, and sister GP39-2 #368. MKT always stationed a pair of engines at Sedalia to power the local trains that operated north and south out of town. When Katy purchased several GP40s from Conrail and Illinois Central Gulf in the mid 1980's, it never repainted them in the yellow and green scheme, for the merger with UP was in the works. Katy management saw no reason to invest in repainting the engines, as the merger could have consumated at any moment. This led to some very colorful locomotive consists in Katy's latter years!
